Dr. Kristian Prados
Dr. Kristian Lee Prados has been the Director of the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Port Macquarie Base Hospital from 2015 to 2023. Dr. Prados is a general adult and Interventional Cardiologist having undergone specialist training in Interventional Cardiology. He completed his Interventional Fellowship at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney in 2011. He has been a consultant Cardiologist and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians since 2010.
Dr. Prados was instrumental in the design and careful planning of the PMBH ‘state-of-the-art’ Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory which opened in 2015. This regional Cath Lab brings to the community specialised interventional procedures such as diagnostic coronary angiograms (to diagnose blocked coronary arteries), angioplasty (balloons and stents to open blocked coronary arteries), right heart studies (to diagnose complex heart and lung conditions), insertion of implantable loop recorders and several other specialised invasive procedures.
In addition to his specialised skillset, Dr. Prados continues to perform the full range of non-invasive cardiology procedures (eg. transoesophageal echocardiograms, electrical cardioversions, stress tests, Holter monitors, pacemaker checks, etc…) which assist him with the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure, structural heart disease and arrhythmogenic heart disease.

Dr. Prados is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of NSW and senior cardiologist at Coast Cardiology. He is involved in teaching and supervising medical students, basic physician trainees as well as advanced trainees in cardiology. He has been an examiner for the Royal Australian College of Physicians since 2012.
Professionally, Dr. Prados keeps abreast with the latest advances in cardiology by attending regular cardiology conferences both domestic and international. He is actively involved in presenting at educational meetings for local health professionals.
Outside medicine, Dr. Prados, his wife and young family reside in Port Macquarie enjoying the coastal lifestyle the Mid North Coast has to offer. Dr. Prados has a keen interest in triathlon and continues to compete in Ironman distance events since 2014. He is a strong advocate of lifestyle modification for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and is committed to ensuring the very best cardiology care is provided to everyone regardless of their personal circumstances.
